Saxmundham Neighbourhood Plan

Join us at the Market Hall for our ‘SAX Jazz’ programme of summer music and dance events – starting Saturday 11th May

Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 2:08 pm

Saxmundham’s Market Hall will soon be reverberating to the rhythm of some great jazz, swing and salsa bands… as part of our plans to add summer zest to Saxmundham’s arts and entertainment scene.

“SAX Jazz” is organising three music events between now and September.

First date for your diary:

Saturday 11th May 2019 – the Swing Machine Big Band, an evening of classic big band Swing jazz from the golden era of the 30s, 40s and 50s from this Ipswich-based band.

Listen and dance to the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Ted Heath, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton…

The band starts at 8 p.m., but do join us from 7 p.m. when you can practice or learn the dance moves before the action starts!

There will of course be a licensed bar.

Tickets cost £10, and are available from Crisps newsagent (High Street) or Jackie L Jewellers (also on the High Street), or email Saxmusicfest@btinternet.com

SAX Jazz is putting on these events in association with Sax Music Fest and Saxmundham Town Council.  Any net proceeds, after paying all costs, will go to the Saxmundham Market Hall renovation fund.

And please put these future dates in your diary:

Friday 21st June at 8 p.m.:

I, Salsa – a group of talented young musicians from London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire with a passion for Latin American music.  And the organisers advise – “don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes for a vibrant night of salsa classics!”.

Saturday 28th September at 8 p.m.:

Horn Factory – fast-moving, toe-tapping, contemporary jazz from East Anglia’s premier Big Band.  And big (in numbers and sound!) they are – nineteen of the best local jazz musicians share their passion for big, bold, beautiful music!
